What's New... March 2011
2010 proved to be a grueling yet exhilarating competitive year. With seven successful competitions behind me, my husband and I decided it was time to take our focus in another direction. It was time to try to start a family. Having had surgery four years ago that left me with a 50% chance of conceiving a child, we were unsure if it would even be possible. Another part of me was very hesitant to try because of the demands pregnancy would have on my body and because of the uncertainty as to whether I would be able to return to my previous physique after having a child. I then remembered some of the most beautiful women/mothers that I have competed against. They have returned to their pre-pregnancy physiques, some even more impressive than before. This was enough to convince me that my body would bounce back, possibly better than before. Moreover, a large part of me was very excited to take a break from the physically demanding world of competing. So we decided to give it a try and see what happens!

The week before Christmas, we found out that we were expecting. What an amazing gift! It wasn't until our first doctor's appointment that we realized it was on our first attempt that we actually conceived. We believe it was meant to be and feel VERY blessed.

We are now 16 1/2 weeks along and I have been very lucky with very few symptoms. No morning sickness or nausea, only a few mild headaches. I would like to attribute that to my level of health and fitness at the time of getting pregnant. I've managed to maintain my fitness level regime with cardio and strength training 4-5 days per week. My cardio is less intense and my weight training sessions incorporate slightly lighter weights with higher reps. I think my body is enjoying the much deserved rest.

Considering that competing is on hold for me this year, I am staying involved by assisting at Fitness Camps and competitions. I am also using my experience to train other athletes to compete in fitness competitions.

We are expecting our little one to join us on August 25th, 2011. It's amazing how quickly things can change. The 6 pack has been replaced by a baby bump, which I love just as much. It's all been a bit of an adjustment but what an adventure... more to come!!!

I hope you will follow me on my fit pregnancy journey.

Keep striving!
